Update: This is actually happening to a couple games in my steam library. Bad Company 2, Fallout 3, Grid, PayDay: The Heist and Trackmania: United. I've disabled about everything I can on my computer that would affect steam. No anti-virus, no firewalls, no logmein, xfire, MSI afterburner....nothing. Checked game integrity of the affected games and still nothing that makes these games work.

Update 2: I think I found the real issue. After reinstalling all my games I went to launch BC2 and got the same god damn error. The only thing I had changed since I started fresh was update to the latest beta drivers. It was the NVIDIDA 295.51 Beta Drivers that was causing this error. So I rolled back to the 290.53 Beta drivers for now, and now I can play the games! Apparently thats what f'd with steam and my computer. Case facking closed.

Was going to hop in the heavy metal server for a minute, tried to start the game and got this error. I know I just played this game last week. Anybody ever get this error or know how to fix it? Want to get this fixed before "Back to Heavy Metal" night.

Try verifying local game files. Soimetimes random errors in steam are fixed by that....

Try this BBR..

------------------------
Launching a game from Steam, the game fails to start and quotes error code 51.

Clean steamapps

This is a Steam response to the issue.
  • Exit Steam entirely.
  • Navigate to your Steam installation (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\)
  • Rename the "steamapps" folder to "old_steamapps"
  • Re-launch Steam and re-install one of the faulty games.
  • Start the game.
If the issue is not resolved, you can rename the folder back to avoid having to re-install other games.
------------------------------------------------

Hopefully that helps?

This is the reason I stay away from beta drivers, they always cause migraines for me. Glad to know you got it figured out though BBR. BTW, I've been getting some playing time in on BF3 the past few days. :) Now, if I could just get some better latency times on the GSN servers, I'll be set
